Ludhiana: BJP National President Nitin Nabin met renowned agricultural scientist and Padma Bhushan awardee Sardara Singh Johl in Ludhiana on Monday and held detailed discussions on the key challenges confronting Punjab’s agriculture sector.
During the meeting, the two exchanged views on issues such as declining farm profitability, depleting groundwater resources, crop diversification, sustainable agricultural practices, and the long-term future of farming in Punjab. Johl, widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on Punjab’s agrarian economy, shared his insights on policy interventions needed to address the state’s agrarian crisis and ensure sustainable growth in the agriculture sector.
Nabin lauded Johl’s contribution to agricultural research and rural development and emphasized the importance of incorporating expert recommendations into policymaking. The discussions also focused on measures to improve farmers’ incomes, promote diversification beyond the wheat-paddy cycle, and strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in the state.
