Poonch: 18 Jul 2025:As part of its ongoing efforts under Operation SADBHAVANA, the Indian Army organized a humanitarian aid distribution and medical outreach program for the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities residing in the remote regions of Marhot, Surankote.
In recent weeks, Army units operating in high-altitude forward areas have distributed all-weather sleeping bags, insecticide-treated mosquito nets and basic survival essentials to nomadic families traveling through summer grazing routes in the higher reaches. These supplies aim to provide relief from inclement weather and offer protection against vector-borne diseases during the monsoon season. Simultaneously, the Army conducted mobile medical patrols in underserved areas, offering basic healthcare services, medical advice and essential medicines.
The outreach benefited over 20 Bakkarwals, including elders, women and children. The initiative was warmly received by the local community, whose traditional lifestyle often places them beyond the reach of conventional healthcare and welfare systems. Elders from the community expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the Indian Army’s compassionate gesture and unwavering support. These efforts reaffirm the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering peace, stability and development in border areas while strengthening the bond of mutual trust between the armed forces and the local population.
