Jammu : 16 May 2023 Sh Vijoy Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary, Deptt of Ex-servicemen Welfare, Min of Defence, New Delhi visited Sainik Welfare Department J&K on 16 May 2023. He was given an update on various activities undertaken by the Rajya Sainik Board J&K and the recent major initiatives undertaken by the Govt of J&K regarding the welfare of ESM and Widows residing in J&K.
Brigadier Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director Sainik Welfare Deptt apprised the Secretary DESW about the recent steps taken for the welfare of veterans like enhancement of Ex Gratia, increased relief for J&K Militia veterans and World War II veterans, approval two 100 bedded children hostels and enhancement of annuity for various gallantry and distinguished service awards. The re-employment avenues for ex-servicemen have also got a boost after govt has given relaxations to ESM to facilitate their employment in J&K.
The Secretary also interacted at length with a large gathering of veterans who apprised him of their concerns. He assured them that necessary action would be taken to resolve various grievances at the appropriate level. Speaking on the occasion, Secy DESW appreciated the steps taken by the Sainik Welfare Department to reach out to ESM and Veer Naris.
