Shiv Sena expresses concern over plight of crematoriums , submits memo to LG, JMC Commissioner

JAMMU: Shiv Sena (Bala Saheb Thackeray) , Jammu and Kashmir unit, expressed resentment of non-functioning of electric crematorium in Jammu despite the assurance given by the officers sitting at the helm of affairs.
Addressing media persons here today, Manish Sahni, President J&K Shiv Sena informed that a memorandum regarding installing of gas and electric crematoriums in Jammu were submitted to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir as well as to the Jammu Municipal Commissioner.
Sahni said that for the last nine years, the only electric crematorium in Jammu and Kashmir at Jogi Gate in Jammu which is in non functional mode as the authorities are not showing any serious concern to fix and start it. At the same time, a gas crematorium unit, donated by a social organization is also lying locked in the box for the last over two months. The administration has adopted delaying tactics in its installation and commissioning.
Sahni said that the Swachh Bharat campaign launched by the Prime Minister is also being blown away by the all-round filth at this place. “The shed built for people to stand near the cremation ground has completely failed to stop the rain water. Due to lack of drainage, this place looks like a pond during the rainy season. The rooms and toilets built over there are in very dilapidated condition as even the fan is not in working condition,” he added.
Sahni asserted that first and second waves of COVID pandemic witnessed a large number of fatalities, and many bodies were lit to pyre using large quantities of wood but despite that, the need for electric crematorium has been felt even during this difficult time of pandemic. He asserted that cremation methods are sensitive cultural issues and needs greater awareness to encourage increased use of eco-friendly crematoriums may it be gas or electric crematoriums which may deemed feasible and workable on the ground. He emphasized that lack of facilities even at the time of last human journey is shameful.
Sahni appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and give directions to the authorities concerned that the electric and gas cremation facilities must be made operational after plugging all its technical flaws. In this occasion president mehila wing Meenakshi Chibber, Gen secretary Vikas Bakshi,Vice president  Balwant Singh , Youth leader Rakesh Handa , were present.
